At Tidbury we recognise that parents play the fundamental role in their child's development. This is acknowledged as the basis for our strong partnership between all of our team at Tidbury and our Tidbury families. We hold workshops and organise stay and play visits so that parents are aware of the learning that takes place at Tidbury and how they can mirror some of this practice at home.

The Provision is outstanding: "Parents greatly appreciate the many opportunities for them to undertake workshops and visits to the nursery. They believe that this helps them to understand more fully how to support their children's learning at home and helps prepare for the child starting school." OFSTED Report 2024

PURPOSE: This feedback page is to share parents comments from Tidbury events.

Messages will be displayed for a maximum of one year .

Phonics Workshop for Swans & Swan parents

JANUARY 2025

OBJECTIVES: To understand how my pre-school child learns phonics through both adult led and child initiated activities

To understand how to help my child at home to develop their pre reading and pre writing skills

How important it is to make learning fun, interesting and ensure your child is empowered and supported

FEEDBACK FROM THE MEETING FROM THE PARENTS:

  • This workshop will bring more focus and attention around my conversations, bringing surroundings to life. It will bring focus to reading and pronunciation.
  • I really enjoyed this session; great to spend time with my son in a different environment.
  • The workshop has helped me to understand where my child is and how to encourage further to build on their learning.
  • Loved the little activities; will replicate at home. Was a joy to see photos of all the swans learning and having fun on the PowerPoint.
  • Please can we have earlier notice for times of workshops. I appreciate it's difficult to accommodate everyone, but more notice time gives chance to arrange things in advance for other siblings.
  • Great delivery; all very clear. Lovely to see them learning in the group sessions. I will now be able to implement teaching into home life to support my daughter.
  • Loved the photos. Really helped to understand how we can support reading and writing skills. I'm going to visit the library and start reading actual books at home, not just my kindle and write a shopping list!
  • Please can you share the rhymes for letter formation. EG: slither down the snake.
  • Good to know the method that Tidbury follows to be consistent at home.
  • Interesting to learn how we can help our son develop, particularly around not forcing his reading prior to starting school.
  • The workshop was fantastic. I love learning all the different techniques to help my daughter learn and how to make them enjoyable.
  • Excellent delivery. I enjoyed the workshop; as nice to see a peak into what the children are learning at nursery. Will help my son to sit with his brothers doing their homework before going to school.

RESPONSE: Thank you for all your feedback and comments:

We have decided to alternate between an early bird 8:15am start for workshops and an afternoon 2:30pm workshop. This way will hopefully accommodate everyone. In future times will be confirmed at least 6 weeks in advance.

Each rhyme will be shared with parents when introduced at nursery.

We had a 95% attendance of swan parents :)

Maths workshop for Swans and the Swan parents

 November 2024

OBJECTIVES: To understand what your child is taught and what targets the Swan group children are working towards

To understand how your child learns through both adult led & child led activities

To understand how to  help my child at home to improve and develop good mathematical skills and a "love of maths".

FEEDBACK FROM THE MEETING FROM THE PARENTS:

  • A very informative workshop that was well led and easy to understand. I will use the same methods Sophie taught us at home.
  • Really enjoyed doing the activities with my daughter; it was a really nice showcase of some simple maths activities that I can do - thank you.
  • The workshop was very well presented, it made me aware of how much maths learning is in every day life.
  • Excellent presentation - Sophie was very articulate. I understand how to help my son at home.
  • The activities were well set out. The course was well delivered and fun for all. Will try to do more number activities at home.
  • I will be starting a calendar at home, and talk about days with my son. I loved the ideas for the activities, Miss Sophie is awesome.
  • I feel the workshop was very informative, I loved doing the activities that will be easy to recreate at home. I really enjoyed it, thank you!
  • I loved Sophie's modelling of teaching the children, her delivery was excellent. I understand how to create opportunities in everyday life to get my son thinking about maths.
  • Good examples of activities to do at home which will  help make learning more fun.
  • I enjoyed doing the activities with my child; will try to implement maths into our day to day activities
  • I loved being involved; great examples of tasks we can do at home. Will definitely use the Magnatiles to make giant numbers at home. Love all of it.

SUGGESTIONS:

  • Would be easier to attend an early morning session.
  • REPLY: We would consider a different time. We will send out a survey prior to the next Phonics Workshop to see which time suits everyone the best.
  • Would have liked the workshop to be longer so we could try more techniques.
  • REPLY: The length of workshops is always a tricky one. This is due to child concentration, parent commitments and teachers time. We have noted your comment and will look to see if there can be an adjustment for the next workshop in January next year.

Thank you for your comments

Teach: How to help a child regulate their emotions

Emotional Security: Boundaries, Routines and giving Choices

3 X STEPS: How we support behaviour and big emotions at Tidbury

We ran two x workshops and invited all of our parents to attend. Attendance was a lot down on last year. Feedback was that this had been a very busy and short term with additional parent events to attend. However it was still a success, and we will look carefully at dates for next year, to be at a quieter time. We had a total of 18 parents attend - these are a few of their comments:

  • This was a very detailed presentation, with really good pre course information and handouts to refer back to.
  • I found the point about swooping in very useful to use when I don't get a response from my child.
  • This was a great refresher for me, it highlighted the importance of chatting and talking about feelings and how I can set a boundary in a different way
  • I loved the chat with the other parents, sharing ideas and others thought process, and how they would deal with things.
  • Fantastic to review and remind how to support my children at home, especially with more challenging times. I will remember the BIG PAUSE! 10/10 - loved it all!
  • We will start making the BIG choices and give our children the two choices.
  • I loved chatting with the other parents + learning some good strategies.
  • I will remember to only ask twice. I will put these techniques into practice straight away.
  • Glad to have the nursery words and signs to use at home, so can mirror the same practice.
  • There was a clear choice of dates and times of the workshop, it was very well presented with enthusiasm.
  • I found all of it useful! Exceeded expectations, I feel I have learnt so much. It was brilliant!
  • I loved the 3 step process, and will use all the points a a reference when dealing with difficult situations.
  • Course was delivered amazingly with lots of helpful content. We will implement some changes, especially giving 2 options.
